Continued..............

Dsc01179

Anyway, back to the impromptu "Stitch'n'Bitch" gathering we had last Saturday night. Here's a picture of Shirley with her baby shawl which she's been knitting for the last FIVE YEARS (can anyone beat that), and me knitting some of my Ripple Scarf. Dsc01178

Next up is Janet carding some wool for felting with Ali hiding behind and DH looking on disapprovingly! He'd just got back from the pub at this point with John, the brother of Shirley, Janet and Ali and here he is.......doing an impression of Emily Howard from Little Britain with some uncarded fleece!!Dsc01181

Tomorrow is the start of a huge canal festival in Runcorn so expect lots of pictures of boats in my next post (and maybe some knitting??)

Smashing Stashing

Opps, I've accidentally bought some more yarn........well, I was in JL and it would have been rude not to! After my post about how much I disliked the new Rowan Magazine 38 I went and joined Rowan International so I now have a copy! But having flicked through it a few times now I decided that I would like to knit Charlotte (see below) hence the purchase of some Ribbon Twist! CharlotteI've never tired cabling so this will be yet another challenge, and hopefully a skill which I can tick off on my "I can call myself a knitter when I've mastered......." list (which is very long)!

Incidentally, I went to JL to buy a bra as I'm a very awkward size and I've found a bra there that fits like a glove but they didn't have any in my size but they happily ordered my one from another store that will be posted to me FREE OF CHARGE - now that's what I call service.

I also said that I would show some pictures of our Runcorn "Stich'n'Bitch" gathering on Saturday.........well it was really only the Turner Sisters again and me, then DH and his chums arrived home from the pub to annoy entertain us!!

Unfortunately Typepad is having a bit of a bad day when it comes to loading images so I'll have to save those for another day.........

Busy Bee

Once again its been a while between posts but I do have a valid excuse. I suddenly realised what little time I have left to write my thesis so any time at the computer has been spent researching/ writing with no time for blogging (as fellow bloggers will know - hours seem to fly by when blogging/ posting).

There has however been some knitting activity.

Dsc01136_1 My ball winder came out for the first time to wind up Pretty Pastels hand spun yarn from Hipknits which then became this neck warmer.Dsc01175 I wanted to knit a scarf but unfortunately, like many yarns from Hipknits, this was a limited edition so my top tip is make sure you buy enough in the first place to avoid disappointment (and be quick as anything really popular is often sold out before you have time to whip our your credit card!).Dsc01134_1 Lynnescarf2ejpgNext, here is my cousin Heather (right) and her friend Joleen who came to visit a couple of weeks ago busy beading some jewelery with my rather large collection of beads. It was the quietest they were all weekend - an obvious hit (note the washing in the background - note to self: be sure to make the boat look tidy before photo shoots!!) And here is a picture of my friend Lynne who has just knitted her first ever scarf (following much encouragement from yours truly). I think she used some Rowan Big Wool but I'm not sure (Lynne will you let me know what you used?).

Then of course there's been some progress on the spinning front. Last Sunday I took my spindle to visit my friend's, the Turner Sisters (Janet, Shirley and Ali) who were busy dyeing some of the carded fleece we washed earlier (see 2nd July post).Dsc01156

Here is some fabulous orange (yes, this is the colour you can achieve with a NATURAL dye!) and some purple, and Dsc01159_1the finished results. Janet and Ali are planning to do some straight felting - a bag perhaps (watch this space) where as Shirley and I want to spin the fleece, I to knit but Shirley to weave since she's just bought a wooden hand-loom on e-bay (isn't e-bay wonderful!).

My first attempts at spinning with a spindle are a bit rough to say the least and I haven't actually managed to take any photos of the results yet but I am hoping to have a go on Shirley's new spinning wheel soon, under her supervision of course. I've been busy bidding on wheels on e-bay but without much success as they seem to go for quite a lot of money so I'll have to save my pennies instead (much to DH's relief - yes I know we don't have space on a boat for a wheel!). I've also made some progress with my Ripple Scarf from my Secret Pal.Dsc01171

Its lovely to knit with and such an easy pattern. I continued with this during our impromptu Runcorn "Stitch'n'Bitch" gathering last night.......more about that tomorrow..........

Rebecca - I love you!

Hooray, my fall issue of Rebecca arrived yesterday and its fab! Here are a few of my favorite patterns:

08042005_07 This would be lovely in the cream mohair from my Secret Pal.

08042005_07_1 I love both of these. I find V neck or wraps really flattering and anything that hugs in at the waist.

08042005_07_2 This wrap would look good in nice chunky handspun wool. And finally,08042005_07_3 I love the bell shaped sleeves on this (plus I really suit red). At £8.99 its a bit pricey for a magazine but with so many great patterns I would highly recommend burning a bit of plastic for a copy! Pity the same can't be said for Rowan Magazine No. 38. I was all set of buy a copy but having looked at the previews I'm not really impressed. The photography is great but the wear-ability of some patterns is really questionable - that is if you can work out what the knitted item actually is. I don't know how others feel but I won't be forking out for a copy!! Let me know what you think? I also feel the same way about Interweave Knits Fall issue. Nothing there to "float my boat". Is it me or have things gone a bit crazy for winter???

Nothing much to say on the knitting front and this weekend my little cousin and her friend who are both 17yrs old are coming to visit so I'll be too busy "shopping" with them to do anything. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Stick in a fork in it.......

I'm done, finished, finito.......yes "the sock" has finally come off the needles.Picture_015 Picture_017Picture_014 I especially like the sock and sandal combination. Now all I need is another one to keep this one company!Picture_013  The colour way is Regina Mini Ringles in Rio from Web of Wool (who also threw in a free pattern!). This is my first ever sock (hence the over excitement) but I can now understand why other knitters become so obsessed with sock knitting as they're highly portable but more importantly no sewing up involved what so ever. Just knit and wear immediately, plus you don't have to worry "does my bum look big in this".

My other picture is of my new knitting bag - a gift from my DS who visited last weekend. My other bag was too small but this one is perfect and I love the "happy" Picture_009 colours. Thanks Gillian!

And finally, another picture of Wally but this time its an "action kitty" shot - something very rare since he spends 23 of 24hrs sleeping.Picture_005
