Blue Skye(s)
Yipee - we've just booked a cottage for a week on Skye from 2nd June. It was reduced as a last minute deal and I can't wait. There's not one bath but two - heaven! We've been to Skye before for our Honeymoon in 2001 for three days.........and it rained, heavily, for three days so I still don't know what it looks like. Hopefully we'll have blue skies this time!
Has anyone any tips on yarn places to explore when we're there? I've found this? I also saw an article in Simply Knitting or Knitting magazine about a farm with spinning and hand dyed objects but I didn't buy the mag at the time. Has anyone seen this and have any details?

The cottages look like they would be a great place to stay! Hope you have a great time!

Delurking to give you some Skye tips (we're up there the same time as you but in Broadford). There's a fantastic little shop called the Handspinner Having Fun in Broadford, lots of handspun yarn and beautiful clothes, highly recommended. Never been to Shilasdair but that's only because neither me nor my boyfriend drive and so are stuck on the buses. Ragamuffin in Armadale sells more knitted clothing and I think has a very small selection of Colinette, and Over the Rainbow in Portree also has a very small selection of yarn.
I seem to remember going to a shop on a family holiday back in 95, I think it was in Struan and it sold yarn etc but I couldn't tell you anymore. This site is worth a look for more goodies: www.slaca.org.uk You can pick up a guide at tourist offices.
Have fun!

Shilasdair really is the back end of the back end of beyond! But well worth a trip, both in terms of exploring Skye and because of the destination.
I was disappointed the day that I went to Shilasdair because the woman in the shop was brusque to the point of rudeness and I felt very unwelcome. However, I have heard that the woman who actually runs the place, and is often there, is lovely.
This will be my third summer on Skye, but because I go to do a Gaelic summer school I don't get out and about as much as I would like. However, if you can, go for lunch at The Three Chimneys - it cost up about £25 each last summer but we thought it was WELL worth it (unlike some other 'well-known' places I've eaten at).
Anyway, enjoy your break.

So glad you've got fixed up for a trip away.
I've been to Shilasdair and had a great time. It really is a place you have to specifically make a point of going to, it's certainly not en route anywhere, but it is a nice scenic run. As you're on Trotternish, well I'm not saying it's handy, but it's handiER!! For example, if you fancy a trip to Dunvegan you could factor in some time to go to Shilasdair. I loved it.

You're winding me up ? That's EXACTLY the same cottage we've booked for a week in Skye later on this summer. How spooky is that ? You'll have to send me all the gen after you've been and leave a secret message somewhere !
Have a wonderful time.
